KD Köln-Düsseldorfer · Cochem

KD's one-hour cruise past the Reichsburg

KD's MS Moselprinz takes a one-hour loop on the Moselle from its own pier on the Cochem promenade, past the half-timbered riverfront and below the Reichsburg on its hill. Pick it over the Kolb loop for one reason: the commentary comes in English as well as German.

KD Panoramic Cruise on the Moselle

About this experience

KD is the big Rhine line, and in Cochem its boat is the MS Moselprinz. The trip is a 60-minute loop from the KD landing stage in front of its ticket office on the Moselpromenade: along the old town, below the castle, past the vineyards and back. No stops, no lock, no surprises. It is the simplest way to see why Cochem looks the way it does on postcards.

The commentary is what sets it apart. KD's own page promises explanations of the landscape in German and English over the loudspeaker. Kolb's loop from the old bridge (the Ernst round trip) covers similar water for the same online price, with German commentary but the option to hop off in a wine village.

The catch is the calendar. KD sails Tuesday to Sunday only, so Monday is out, and its season is shorter than Kolb's: the 2026 boats stopped on 18 October and the next season runs 27 March to 17 October 2027. At the kiosk an adult paid 14 euros in 2026 and a family of two adults and two children 41 euros. Online it starts at $16, which buys a fixed slot and free cancellation up to 24 hours before.

  • The Reichsburg seen from below, the angle you can't get from town
  • Commentary in German and English over the loudspeaker
  • Children up to 6 ride free, per the listing
  • Up to six sailings a day, Tuesday to Sunday
  • Snacks and drinks sold on board

Tips before you book

  • On a quiet weekday, buy at the kiosk: 14 euros for adults, 12 euros for children and students, 11.20 euros for seniors and 41 euros for a family of four (2026 KD fares). On summer weekends, book a slot online.
  • Take the 18:00 boat in summer. Lower sun on the castle, fewer people on deck.
  • Board early and go straight up. The open deck is where the views are, and the seats go first.
  • Dogs pay 3.90 euros each on KD; on Kolb they usually ride free.
  • Planning 2027? KD sails 27 March to 17 October 2027, Tuesday to Sunday, at 10:30, 12:00, 13:30, 15:00, 16:30 and 18:00.
