Which boats still sail from Cochem in November and December 2026?

Only Kolb's one-hour round trip from the old Moselle bridge. It runs on weekends in November, on three Saturdays in December and daily between Christmas and New Year.

Kolb's winter round trip page calls it Cochem & surroundings in winter. The route is the same as in summer: downstream toward the leisure centre, then back up past the Reichsburg, the Brauselay rock, Ebernach monastery and the wine villages of Valwig and Ernst, one hour in all. In November the boat sails on Saturdays and Sundays at 11:00, 12:30, 14:00 and 15:30. In December the first boat leaves later, at 12:30.

Kolb's December list has a typo (it ends with "31.12.2025"), but its other note is clear: Saturdays except 26 December, plus 27 to 31 December 2026. We'd skip the 15:30 boat in December. You come back into a town that is already dark, which is pretty for the castle lights and useless for the vineyards.

Does the lock cruise to Beilstein run in winter?

No. Kolb's lock cruise to Beilstein runs daily to 31 October 2026 and then stops until spring.

The lock cruise page lists Easter daily, April weekends and 1 May to 31 October daily. Nothing after that. If you are in Cochem this week, the last sailings on 29 to 31 October leave the old bridge at 10:30, 12:00, 13:30 and 16:15. Take an early one: the boat needs a bit under an hour to Beilstein, and the light fades fast now.

One more winter catch. The Kolb round trip lets you step off in Ernst and catch a later boat in summer, but the listing says the Ernst stop does not operate in winter. Are there Advent or New Year boat trips from Cochem?

Yes, a few. Kolb lists an Advent brunch cruise and a New Year's Eve event trip, and KD runs a hotel-ship weekend from Cologne for the Federweisser festival.

Kolb's Advent brunch cruise runs on Sunday 29 November (already sold out) and Sunday 6 December 2026. Boarding is at 10:30, the boat leaves at 11:15 and returns at 13:15. The buffet covers rolls, croissants, cheese, cold cuts, warm dishes, fruit, muesli and hot drinks. Prices show only at booking on ticket-regional.de.

Kolb's winter schedule page also lists a New Year's Eve trip from Cochem on MS RiverDream on 31 December 2026, with no times published yet. Coming from further away? KD sells a three-day Federweissenfest cruise on its hotel ship MS KD Moment, Cologne to Cochem and back, 6 to 8 November 2026, from 369 EUR per person with full board. It spends 12 hours in Cochem on the Saturday.

What else is there to do in Cochem when the boats thin out?

The castle stays open, the Federweisser festival fills the first November weekends, and the Christmas market takes over the old town from late November.

The Reichsburg's opening hours change on 2 November 2026: guided tours run daily from 10:00 to 15:00 until 23 December, with longer hours on the Advent Magic weekend of 5 and 6 December. The castle restaurant closes from 16 November. In January and early February 2027 the tours drop to a few days a week, so check before you climb the hill.

The Federweissenfest is the season's last wine party: the first two weekends of November in a marquee on Endertplatz, with new, half-fermented wine and dance bands. After that comes the Christmas market on the Marktplatz and Endertplatz. Deutsche Bahn's market guide gave 28 November to 21 December for 2025. For 2026, check the town's event calendar before you fix your dates. A one-hour Kolb loop on a December Saturday, then mulled wine on the square, is a decent winter afternoon.

Is a winter boat trip on the Moselle worth it?

If you are in Cochem anyway, yes. Go for the castle and the quiet river, not for green vineyards, and pick the 12:30 or 14:00 boat.

Winter strips the slopes back to grey slate and bare vines, and the river looks bigger for it. The boats are emptier too. Pack a warm layer for the open deck and expect the castle to steal every photo.

Book nothing far ahead for winter. Kolb sells at the kiosk by the old bridge and through ticket-regional.de, and a weekend-only timetable can change with weather or high water.
